Description

The Marshall County Personnel Board is currently accepting applications for a Mapper position in the Appraisal & Mapping Department. Starting pay and grade will be determined by experience and education requirements, as defined in the minimum qualifications for each job code.

MAPPER TRAINEE – JOB CODE - 326

Create, verify and edit a geographic information system (GIS) database using specialized software for tax mapping. Provide support for special projects that relate to spatial, demographic, or tabular data contained in GIS. File and maintain records, forms, correspondence, etc. Receive and sort incoming mail and send out mail as needed. Answer telephone, route calls, relay messages, greet visitors and provide assistance and/or information.

Mapper Trainee - Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of two (2) years of college level courses (Associate Degree preferred) in fields related to mapping, civil engineering, etc., or an equivalent combination of education & experience.

MAPPER I – JOB CODE - 323
Prepares, revises and maintains a variety of maps and mapping related records, documents, and reports. Creates, revises, manipulates, and maintains spatial database records used with computer based geographic information systems. Produces visual aids and graphics for presentation, provides spatial analysis, explains and interprets maps as requested by county departments and the general public. Chart parcel boundaries from legal documents such as deeds and maps, create and edit geographic information system (GIS) using specialized software for tax mapping.

Mapper I - Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of college level courses (Associate Degree preferred) in fields related to mapping, civil engineering, or related field. Successful completion of Alabama III/Basic Mapping and Alabama VII/Intermediate Mapping courses. Six (6) months of experience in tax mapping with GIS training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 

MAPPER II – JOB CODE - 324
Prepares, revises and maintains a variety of maps and mapping related records, documents, and reports. Creates, revises, manipulates, and maintains spatial database records used with computer based geographic information systems. Produces visual aids and graphics for presentation, provides spatial analysis, explains and interprets maps as requested by county departments and the general public. Chart parcel boundaries from legal documents such as deeds and maps, create and edit geographic information system (GIS) using specialized software for tax mapping.

Mapper II - Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of college level courses (Associate Degree preferred) in fields related to mapping, civil engineering, or related field plus 3 years of experience as a Mapper I, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified as Alabama Certified Mapper (digitized track) through the Alabama State Property Tax Education and Certification program.
 

MAPPER III – JOB CODE - 325

The Mapper III position includes duties defined in the Mapper Trainee, Mapper I & Mapper II positions, along with  additional duties, which include, planning, coordinating, monitoring and reviewing the work of a small group of Mappers. Will also participate in training new personnel, and communicating with supervisor regarding priorities and scheduling of work.

Mapper III - Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to mapping, civil engineering, etc. plus 5 years of GIS mapping experience, including 3 years as a Mapper II, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified as Alabama Certified Mapper (digitized track) through the Alabama State Property Tax Education and Certification program.
 

Computer access is available on the 3rd floor of the Marshall County Courthouse

outside the Marshall County Personnel Board Office between the hours:

8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
