The Marshall County Personnel Board is currently accepting applications for a Personal Property Appraiser position in the Appraisal & Mapping Department. Starting pay and grade will be determined by experience and education requirements, as defined in the minimum qualifications for each level.

APPRAISER TRAINEE – JOB CODE - 319 GRADE - 106
Discovers business personal property, as directed, and maintains an accurate listing of all business personal property accounts within the tax jurisdiction. Assists in on-site physical inspections. Performs review and telephone audits to ensure the accurate and lawful valuation and collection of tax revenue within the county tax jurisdiction.
Associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, taxation, law, property valuation, or a related field with a strong background in mathematics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior appraisal training and/or closely related experience may be considered in lieu of college education.
Must possess a valid State of Alabama driver's license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
Must successfully complete within 24 months of employment date the following Alabama Department of Revenue Property Tax Education and Certification Program courses: Personal Property Appraisal Manual and IAAO 101 - Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal.
Must be 21 years of age.
Discovers business personal property, as directed, and performs physical inspection to ensure the accurate and lawful valuation and collection of tax revenue within the tax jurisdiction. Assists in the auditing of small to medium size businesses, which distinguishes this position from that of Appraiser Trainee.
Appraiser I - Minimum Qualifications:Associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, taxation, law, property valuation, or a related field and 18 months of tax appraisal experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess a valid State of Alabama driver's license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
Must complete within a specified period of time all requirements for designation as an Alabama Certified Appraiser (Personal Property Track) through the Alabama Department of Revenue Property Tax Education and Certification Program.
Successful completion of Personal Property Appraisal Manual and IAAO 101 - Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal.
Must be 21 years of age.
Performs business personal property discovery, appraisals, physical inspections, and audits to ensure the accurate and lawful valuation and collection of tax revenue in the County. Performs more complex appraisals, audits larger businesses, and exercises more independent judgment regarding appraisal situations.
Associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, taxation, law, property valuation, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in appraisal and auditing business personal property, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess a valid State of Alabama driver's license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
Current designation as an Alabama Certified Appraiser (Personal Property) through the Alabama Department of Revenue Property Tax Education and Certification Program.
Must be 21 years of age.
Performs business personal property appraisals, physical inspections, and audits to ensure the accurate and lawful valuation and collection of tax revenue in the County.
Appraiser III - Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, taxation, law, property valuation, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in practical appraisal and auditing of personal property, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess a valid State of Alabama driver's license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
Current designation as an Alabama Certified Appraiser (Personal Property) through the Alabama Department of Revenue Property Tax Education and Certification Program.
Must be 21 years of age.
